McMaster Musical Theatre (or MMT, as it is often abbreviated) is a theatre company operating in Hamilton, Ontario. It was officially created in 1983 as a McMaster Students Union club, operating out of McMaster University. MMT presents a high-calibre licensed musical theatre production every February involving volunteer performers, musicians, technicians and crew. MMT is led by an annually-elected executive team and annually-hired production team, who also work in the club on a volunteer basis. The members of the club are ever-changing and made up of both students from McMaster University and non-students.

MMT's productions have taken place at venues across Hamilton including the Robinson Memorial Theatre, the Downtown Arts Centre, and the Lyric Theatre (previously the Westside Concert Theatre).

The yearly show is chosen by the executive team and licensed from a production rights company such as Music Theatre International, Samuel French, or Tams Witmark. Applications for the production team usually become available at the end of March/early April, with auditions for cast, orchestra and crew applications the following September. Current information regarding auditions, applications, and current productions can be found at MMT's website.

McMaster Musical Theatre officially celebrated its 30-year anniversary with its 2013 production of Spring Awakening.

Mandate

The company's mandate can be found on their website and is as follows:

"No experience required; just passion. MMT prides itself on its dual purpose; we are a company that brings polished and professional-calibre productions to the city, a tradition of excellence passed down from alumni which include Eugene Levy and Martin Short. But we're also a club, and one of our highest priorities each year is to create a supportive environment in which young artists can become inspired, grow, and feel like they're part of a family. MMT brings people together. The Company is made up of an ever-changing team of volunteer performers, technicians, musicians, artists, and enthusiasts; We are students and non-students from various faculties, professions, and walks of life. Our audiences are just as diverse and passionate, selling out our shows weeks in advance. With the support of our sponsors, we are so excited to continue fostering creativity and growth in our community. We are invested in the cultural development of McMaster and Hamilton, and this passion is showcased on our stage each and every February."
