src: i.ytimg.com

LMMS (formerly Linux MultiMedia Studio) is a digital audio workstation application program. When LMMS is executed on a computer with appropriate hardware, it allows music to be produced by arranging samples, synthesizing sounds, playing on a MIDI keyboard and combining the features of trackers and sequencers. It supports the Linux Audio Developer's Simple Plugin API (LADSPA), and Virtual Studio Technology (VST) plug-ins. It is free software released under the GNU General Public License, version 2 (GPLv2).

Overview

System requirements

LMMS is available for multiple operating systems, including Linux, OpenBSD, macOS and Windows. It requires a 1 GHz CPU, 512 MB of RAM and a two-channel sound card.

Program features

LMMS accepts soundfonts and GUS patches. It can import Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) and hydrogen files. FL Studio project (FLP) files had been able to be imported, but FLP support has since been removed. It can write and read customized presets and themes. Audio can be exported in the OGG and WAV file formats, and the projects are saved in the plain XML MMP or compressed MMPZ file format. It can use VST plug-ins, though currently the macOS port doesn't support them.
